Once the holidays are over, the question becomes: what do you do with all the ornaments, wrapping paper, and the tree? Here are some practical tips, with easy examples, to help you tackle the post-Christmas clutter at home:

  • Sort by Category: Separate ornaments, lights, wrapping supplies, and décor into groups.

  • Choose Clear Bins: Transparent containers make it easy to see what’s inside.

  • Protect Delicate Items: Use egg cartons, tissue paper, or divided boxes to keep fragile ornaments safe.

  • Tidy Up Lights: Wrap them around cardboard or reels to keep them from tangling.

  • Label Everything – Clearly mark each box (e.g., “Tree Ornaments,” “Outdoor Lights”).

  • Store Wrapping Supplies Together: Keep paper, bows, and ribbons in one tall bin or an under-bed box.

  • Stack with Care: Heavier boxes go at the bottom, lighter décor on top.

  • Pick the Right Spot: Store in a cool, dry area to avoid damage.

By following this simple system, you’ll save time and stress next year—and kick off the holiday season with ease.

IKEA has a great solution to store wrapping paper, postcards, etc. the SKUBB:

Bol.com offers the Q-line transparent boxes to store ornaments perfectly:

If you use a Christmas plastic tree, there are some ways you can store it:

  1. Tree Storage Bag – Specially designed zippered bags (available at IKEA, Action, Bol.com, or Amazon) keep the tree dust-free and easy to carry. Many come with wheels.

  2. Original Box – If you still have it, the cardboard box works well. Reinforce it with tape so it lasts longer.

  3. Plastic Bins – Large clear bins protect the tree from moisture and pests. Perfect if you want extra sturdiness.

  4. Disassemble in Sections – Take the tree apart, compress branches, and tie each section with twine or Velcro straps to save space.

  5. Use Shrink Wrap – Wrap the whole tree tightly in plastic film to keep it compact and dust-free (works best if you keep the decorations off).

  6. Vertical Storage – If you have space, some bags allow you to store the tree standing up—great for avoiding bent branches.

  7. Choose a Dry Location – Keep it in a cool, dry place like a closet, storage room, or attic (avoid damp basements).

👉 Tip: Label the storage bag or box (“Christmas Tree – Living Room”) so you know exactly what’s inside next year.
